What is a QBO file?

QBO is the "Web Connect" file QuickBooks Desktop uses — it's what you get when you pick the QuickBooks option on your bank's download page. Under the hood a QBO file is OFX with a QuickBooks-specific header, storing each transaction as tagged text rather than columns, so a spreadsheet won't open it directly. This tool reads those tags and lays your transactions out as an ordinary CSV.

How to convert QBO to CSV

  1. Download the .QBO file from your bank, choosing the QuickBooks/Web Connect option.
  2. Click Choose a QBO file above and select it (or drag it in).
  3. Your transactions appear as a table. Click a column chip to leave a field out, drag to reorder, or double-click to rename.
  4. Download the table as CSV — or, if the file held several accounts, grab them all as a .zip.

QBO vs .QBW — am I in the right place?

Yes, if your file is a bank download (.QBO). That's different from a QuickBooks company file (.QBW), which holds your whole set of books and isn't a transaction download. This converter handles the .QBO Web Connect file. The same format also appears as OFX and QFX, which this tool reads too.

Are dates and amounts changed?

No. Fields are kept exactly as your bank wrote them, so amounts stay signed (a debit like -20.00 stays negative) and dates keep OFX's YYYYMMDD form. Nothing is rounded, reformatted, or dropped — what you download is a faithful copy of the file's data.

Is my data safe?

Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your file is never sent to a server, so nothing about your accounts leaves your computer. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
