Bills
Bills track money your company owes to vendors. Post a bill when you receive it, keep an eye on the due date and remaining balance, then connect the payment when it leaves your bank account. Doric keeps the expense, liability, and payment together.
Getting there
Open Bills with the bill icon in the left sidebar. The list shows the vendor, reference number, dates, status, total, and remaining balance. Use Draft, Open, Partial, Paid, and Void to focus the list.
Enter a bill
Click + New Bill, then enter what the vendor sent you:
- Choose the Vendor from your payees.
- Enter the Ref # from the vendor's bill, the bill date, and—if provided—the due date and terms.
- Add each charge as a line with a description, expense account, quantity, and unit price.
- Add an optional memo, then save or post the bill.
Use separate lines when a bill belongs to more than one expense account—for example, office supplies and shipping on the same vendor bill.
Record a bill payment
Once a bill is open, you can connect its payment in either direction:
From the bill
Open the bill and click Record payment. Choose the account you paid from, enter the amount and payment date, and confirm. Partial payments are supported: the bill moves to Partial and the unpaid portion remains visible.
From a bank transaction in the register
If the withdrawal or card charge is already in the register, open its Category picker and choose Apply to bill…. Find the open bill and enter the amount to apply. You can divide one payment among several bills when you pay a vendor in a batch.
Correcting a bill or payment
Open a bill to review its payment history and remove a payment that was matched by mistake. A payment recorded from the bill is deleted; a matched bank withdrawal returns to uncategorized in the register. A draft can be deleted. After a bill has been posted, use Void so Doric preserves the record and reverses its accounting entry. Remove any payments before voiding the bill.
Bill creation, posting, edits, payments, and voids are recorded in the Audit Log, along with undo when it is still safe.
