What is an IIF file?
IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) is a tab-separated text format QuickBooks Desktop uses to export and import lists — your chart of accounts, vendors, customers, employees, and transactions. It's not something most spreadsheets open cleanly, because a single IIF file packs several different tables together, each with its own set of columns.
How to convert IIF to CSV
- In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File → Utilities → Export → Lists to IIF Files and save the .IIF file.
- Click Choose an IIF file above and select it (or drag it in).
- Each record type appears as its own table. Click a column chip to leave a field out.
- Download an individual table as CSV, or grab everything at once as a .zip.
Why several CSV files?
One IIF file usually contains multiple lists — for example accounts (ACCNT),
vendors (VEND), and customers (CUST) — and each has different
columns. A single CSV can't represent that cleanly, so this converter gives you one CSV per
record type, which is what spreadsheets and other accounting tools expect.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your file is never sent to a server, so nothing about your books leaves your computer. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
